Twenty years ago I graduated from Makerere University with a BSC. in Forestry from School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Studies. It was a nice, quiet and beautiful faculty (as we called it then) – and still is, with a forever-green well trimmed garden at the front. Those days we lived a simple and beautiful life. I was one of the only 5 girls in a class of about 30. The 4 years passed so fast and we all graduated. Each one of us went our own ways, though one of us stayed and is now a professor! I’m not surprised he’s a professor. He was the star of our class, super intelligent. I interacted with him yesterday and…he bought my book ARE YOU PURSUING AUTHENTIC SUCCESS? πŸ™‚

But who knew that I would also return to the School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Studies…no, not as a professor but as a speaker?

Yesterday it was a pure joy and honor to speak about Authentic Success to the honorable people that taught me so many years ago – my former lecturers. πŸ™‚

The experience was so humbling. I was so happy to be in their midst – the professors, doctors and everyone else. We talked about authentic success, personal & professional goals and more.

I’m so thankful that the people who taught me so many years ago. Each in their own way contributed to who I am today. God has watched over them and I pray that He will continue to to so.

I’m thankful that I had the opportunity to speak to them and even though they are my seniors, I hope that each one of them walked away with at least one seed of authentic success. πŸ™‚ I’m thankful for their time.

The few times I’ve gone back to the university, especially my school of Forestry…beautiful memories of my school days are ignited. And now I go and see these young boys and girls there, also paving their way into their future. Yesterday after my talk, as I was walking down the stairs, a group of girls and boys were seated at the stairs. As I paved my way through them, there was this particular delicate young girl that followed me with her eyes. As I started descending to the next level below, I could sense she was still looking at me. So I looked up and indeed she was looking down at me. I smiled. And I said to her, “I graduated from here in 2003”. Her eyes popped and she was like, “woooooow….I wasn’t even born yet” πŸ™‚ The other students turned in amazement πŸ˜€ And as I was exciting the building, a student came to me and was like “Oh my God, I heard you saying you graduated in 2003, Wow, Oh my God, is it true you graduated in 2003?” and he said it over and over again in wonder. πŸ™‚ If you know me, you probably know why these young people were amazed… because…’If you know, you know’ 😜 and I give God the glory for that. And if you don’t know, hint…they probably thought I was a student at the university, lol.

Anyway, yesterday at School of Forestry, not only did I interact with my lecturers, I interacted with my former classmate, I interacted with support stuff who worked there when I was a student, I interacted with the young boys and girls who are currently students there. To sum it all, my day was filled with pure joy!!

Truly grateful,

-Ruthida

PS: Yesterday morning, as I was getting ready for my day…a light bulb went off in my head of how Ruthida Crafts and Forestry are linked!!! It was an Aha moment for me! That will be in another blog post. Be sure to look out for it.
